Greeting

Last modified: 21. June 2023

Dear Visitors,

As the campus director of Szent István Campus of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), I warmly welcome you on behalf of my colleagues and our students.

As the largest unit of MATE, our campus is located in the western half of the city of Gödöllő, in a large wooded and landscaped area, next to the botanical garden of the university. The headquarters of the campus is located in Gödöllő, but the Szarvas Training Centre and the Szarvas Arboretum is also administered by us. One of the focuses of our training, research, and consulting work is protecting the environment, making it more beautiful and livable. Our goal is to contribute to the development of a modern, innovative, efficient and self-sufficient domestic agriculture based on the sustainable utilization of natural resources.

Szent István Campus is a city within a city. Here you can find a restaurant, cafe, shop, post office, pharmacy - everything you need for everyday life. The proximity of the railway and HÉV stations also makes it easier to reach Budapest. In addition to the diversity of cultural life - summer theater, film club - a healthy life and sports activities also play an important role in our lives. Our sports facilities include a sports hall, tennis court, football field, fencing hall, and our latest pride is a competition swimming pool. Our athletes successfully participate in national and world competitions.

It is important for us to train students with excellent language skills, practical experience and up-to-date theoretical knowledge, who can leave the walls of our campus and start their dream career, while their knowledge provides professional and financial respect for them. Our training palette covers the entire vertical related to Hungarian agriculture: our students can train in agricultural and environmental sciences, rural development, agricultural economics, social sciences, pedagogy, and technological fields. Many of our majors are also available in English.

Those who value language learning, language practice and international relations can also find their calculations with us. More than 400 foreign students have been choosing our campus for years, and every year hundreds of our teachers and students have the opportunity to study abroad as part of international scholarship applications.

With extensive research programs, opportunities to participate in international tenders and conferences, we welcome those interested in scientific life, enabling high-level research work in many scientific fields.

Significant infrastructural developments have begun on our campus, after which, within a few years, a modern educational technology and office environment that meets the expectations of the future will await our students and employees. At the same time, we constantly review our training offer and training content and adapt it to the current and future needs of agriculture and the economy, while preserving the traditions of the past 70 years. Among other things, our goal is to have a university that is more open to the needs of the economy - especially the agricultural and food industry, as well as public services - based on Hungarian knowledge, innovation, and talent, and that cooperates even more closely and efficiently with companies and other actors in the sector.

We are proud of the fact that after being closed for the last few years, we managed to form a particularly cohesive community with colourful sports, community and cultural programs, with members who rate the time spent within the walls of the Szent István Campus as a special experience, wherever they go later in the world.
